Shiatsu,
is Japanese for finger pressure and comes to us out
of centuries of folk and more recently professional experience in China
and Japan. During a shiatsu session, pressure and stretches are used
on pathways of energy flow throughout the body, with special
attention to points on these pathways where energy pools. Shiatsu
can be strong or gentle, depending on the clients needs, applied
through palm, thumb, elbow, knee or other method of pressure. The very
physical nature of shiatsu brings awareness to the condition of the
physical body and allows release of blocked energy, often in
the form of physical and emotional tension. Shiatsu aids in circulation
of energy, blood and other fluids throughout the body, with health-enhancing
effects. The goal of shiatsu treatment is increased balance or harmony
of the whole person. Shiatsu addresses a wide variety of concerns and
is especially helpful for chronic conditions and reduction of stress
and anxiety. It is also an excellent therapy to use regularly in a preventative,
health maintenance capacity. It is performed on a clothed client, without
the use of oils or lotion.
Shelley is a Registered Shiatsu Therapist, with the Shiatsu Therapy Association of B.C. She offers shiatsu treatment at her clinic on Pender Island.
